The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust
Posted by Moonage | Filed under The World Of David Bowie

Bowie sure has had a strange effect on some people. Saul Williams has created a “piece” based somehow on Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust apparently. Now, I’m not sure if this some kind of reference to Bowie per se, or, it’s Trent Reznor’s influence on Saul. Kind of hard to tell since the only overt reference to anyone else seems to be the song Sunday Bloody Sunday, which you better know who that is.
I might just give this one a shot. If nothing else, I am curious.
A sidenote, Saul is doing the radiohead thingy whereby you can download his stuff either for free or make a donation. I love this. I really do. Do the right thing peeps and make this work. The sooner music isn’t dominated by the RCAs and Sonys the sooner we’ll get back to real music that makes people learn and think.

October 31st, 2007 at 4:21 pmMoonage, Cristin and I have a request. We’d love to see live footage or a video for “Win.” Such a sexy song, I’d love to see it performed. A quick search of YouTube turned up nothing, so we thought we’d ask you - can you help??

October 31st, 2007 at 11:27 pmThe problem we would have to start with is, as best I can tell, according to every source I know, is he has never performed “Win” live. Ever. Teenage Wildlife (http://www.teenagewildlife.com/info/tours/ ) is usually one of the best sources to start with when looking for a performance, which is usually the best clue there is a video of that performance somewhere. If it’s not there, and he didn’t do a production version ( which he didn’t in this case ), then it’s most likely not there. He’s always been very odd in his choice of songs to perform. Win would have been awesome in concert.

November 26th, 2007 at 9:06 pmBowie has performed Win live on the ‘74 tour. There’s also a brief video snippet on youtube where he hums it’s intro for a few seconds during a Reality gig. According to the illustrated DB discography: A remixed version of this song appeared on the Rykodisc reissue, in which the saxophone no longer travels from speaker to speaker. Only one live version, recorded in Atlanta, The Omni, 01-12-74, is available on tape.
I have the recording of this, if anyone wants it they can email me.

November 27th, 2007 at 12:04 amWell. That clears that up to some degree. I have three bootlegs from that tour, but not the Atlanta show. Needless to say, I’m sure there are a couple here at least that would love to have at the very least the performance of Win. However, you don’t seem to have left us an email address. If you’re still hanging around, if you would email me ( or Cristin I’m sure wouldn’t mind either ), we’d appreciate it!
