American Fantasy Idol?
Posted by Moonage | Filed under Events
Marc Hirsh of MSNBC had a fantasy idol competition. The contestants were:
- 12th place: Sting
- 11th place: Marvin Gaye
- 10th place: Stevie Nicks
- Ninth place: Johnny Cash
- Eighth place: Chrissie Hynde
- Seventh place: Courtney Love
- Sixth place: John Lennon
- Fifth place: Mama Cass Elliott
- Fourth place: Whitney Houston
- Third place: Stevie Wonder
- Final two: Aretha Franklin and David Bowie
- Winner: David Bowie
Now, being a Bowie fan, I’d like to think my years of suffering at the hands of all the testosterone driven music freaks who thought Motley Crue was good music has finally paid off. However, I think this is somewhat biased. John Lennon would have sung sweeter, Stevie Wonder would how wowed them. Aretha Franklin would have just knocked them completely off their feet.
Simon Cowell would have kicked Bowie off the show because of his hair, crooked teeth, mis-matched eyes, weird clothes, and limited vocal range. Bowie’s talent would never have been an issue.
( Courtney Love would never have beaten anyone on the list. )

May 24th, 2007 at 2:57 pmNah, I’m too old and too wrapped up in being a daddy to appeal to the younger, sexier crowd right now. My style of choice right now is faded jeans and a t-shirt supporting some good charity that I spent five minutes helping so I could get new shirt for free. That’s my statement of me right now. I don’t see that getting the critics at Esquire too excited. I don’t think too many of those guys place a lot of value on parenting.
However, I have some OLDER pics that could get them excited. But, that’d be cheating.
And, oddly enough, Esquire sent me an invite to blog with/for them a while back, so it could be a conflict of interest.
Yeah, that’s my ticket.

June 17th, 2007 at 4:58 pmMD, a happy fathersday. Hope you got berakfast in bed at least!
Did Bowie win this ouright as a result of as a public vote? I’m pleased to see him looking so well again.
Are yu still doing your other blog pages? I used to really enjoy reading your ‘political’ blogs as they were very mind provoking and challeneged my accepted opinions> i dont always comment as I dont feel informed enough on some issues and sometimes what i mean to write comes out wrong!!
Anyway nice to see your still blogging away.

June 17th, 2007 at 8:14 pmNo, it was just the opinion of the author of the article. I thought it was pretty cool, but given the nature of the US tv series, unrealistic since Cowell tends to worry about a lot intangible things than obvious creative talent.

June 17th, 2007 at 8:16 pmAnd, yeah, I’ve still got all the other blogs going. Feel free to comment on anything you want. I don’t expect people to be rocket scientists on every topic. I do however, prefer people think outside of what they see on tv or read on the internet. I get kinda short when I’m spoonfed rhetoric.
