August 5th, 2006 at 3:34 pmAfter Aladdin Sane this is my fave Bowie cover. The original artwork had David’s gentitals intact but the RCA men in suits couldn’t cope with that so they were airbrushed out.

August 5th, 2006 at 6:07 pmI knew that. I tend to agree with RCA on that one. That’s just more than I need to know. And, in those days, censorship was still a very prevalent practice, especially in the US. It most likely would never have been sold in any store until about 20 years later. So, all in all, I think Bowie’s probably fairly appreciative that they did tone it down a little. Best I recall, the album did quite well in the US.

I agree with you. the original artwork with genitals in tact looks very disconcerting. It would definitley have put some people off. And your right, DD was Top 10 in USA and went gold pretty quickly from what I have read. Like the new type face btw.

August 14th, 2006 at 6:30 pmThanks. I had been getting too many complaints about speed so I stripped it down and went with services that don’t hang up the load time. I like the way it looks too!
